Around 3.19 lakh candidates appeared for the West Bengal SSC School Level Selection Test (SLST). The exam was held today, September 7. The exam was held at 636 centers set up across the state amid tight security. This was the first teacher recruitment exam conducted by the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) after the Supreme Court in April cancelled more than 26,000 jobs in government schools. The Supreme Court had cancelled the recruitment process held in 2016 due to irregularities.
The exam started at 12 noon and ended at 1.30 pm. Divyang candidates were given an additional 20 minutes in the exam. Candidates were strictly checked at the gates of the centers before the examination for the recruitment of assistant teachers in classes 9th and 10th began. Many candidates from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh also appeared in the exam.
Entry given after 3-stage checking
A three-tier security system was implemented at the exam centers, which included Naka checking at a distance of 100 meters from the exam venue and multiple checks at the entry gate and premises. Candidates were allowed to enter the exam hall only after thorough checking. Keeping in mind the security measures, every candidate was asked to be present at the centers from 10 am onwards, two hours before the start of the exam. Barcode scanners were used to check the admit cards at the exam center gate, and only pens were allowed inside.
A ban was imposed on these
No electronic devices or mobile phones were allowed. Even the exam center supervisors and SSC officials were prohibited from carrying mobile phones in the exam hall. WBSSC had arranged for unique identification security features in each question paper to keep an eye on candidates using unfair means.
For the first time, candidates appearing for the exam were allowed to take home their question paper and a carbon copy of their OMR sheet, which officials said was a transparency measure to prevent malpractice. Many first-time candidates said the questions were simple, while others felt they could have performed better had they prepared better
