Using Bluetooth headphones is no longer just a pleasure to listen to music, but can also become a big danger. Especially if you are using expensive brands like Sony, Bose, or Marshall. The government has issued a high alert regarding these devices. Let's know.
If you use Bluetooth headphones or earbuds of big brands like Sony, Bose, Marshall or Jabra, then be careful. The Government of India has issued a big security alert regarding these devices. This threat is related to the chip (SoC) of a company called Airoha, which powers these headphones and earbuds. The government's cyber security agency CERT-In has considered this issue as a "high level threat" and has advised users to be cautious about it. Let's know what is the real reason behind this threat and how it can be avoided.
What can be the harm?
According to the CERT-In report, several vulnerabilities have been found in Airoha's Bluetooth firmware. By taking advantage of these vulnerabilities, any hacker who is in Bluetooth range can enter the RAM or Flash of your device. Not only this, he can run HFP (Hands-Free Profile) commands on your mobile phone, listen to audio from the microphone, steal call history and contacts and even hack the firmware of the headphone. That is, a small wireless headphone can put your privacy at risk.

Companies' preparations and what users should do
Airoha company, acknowledging this threat, has sent an SDK with a firmware security update to all manufacturers on June 4, 2025. Now it depends on each brand when it will deliver this update to its users. Users have been advised to check the firmware of their headphones, earbuds or speakers from time to time and if the update is available, install it immediately. Until the update arrives, do not connect these devices to Bluetooth in unknown or public places.
What do experts say?
Cyber security experts say that to take advantage of this threat, the hacker needs to be in the Bluetooth range of your device and he must have high-level skills. Although this is not easy, but the threat remains. In such a situation, it is important that companies release firmware updates as soon as possible and users should also not take the security of their device lightly. In today's time, Bluetooth devices have become a part of everyone's life, and it is very important to take the security related to them seriously. If you are using a wireless audio device, then immediately go to your brand's website or app and see if any update has come or not.
