Fraudsters have found a new way to cheat people; now, people are being scammed through Captcha Code. Many websites often ask the user to verify by entering the captcha code, but now the fraudsters have made the captcha itself a weapon to cheat. Scammers are now using fake CAPTCHA to spread malware like Luma Stealer on people's devices.
This malware is capable of stealing data from your phone and computer. Users should be cautious while browsing, especially while visiting unknown websites, clicking on pop-up ads, or turning on browser notifications. Many times, a prompt comes on the screen which says I am not a robot, Only after ticking this option is this box removed, and you can proceed. Sites or search engines put such a code so that it can be verified that no robot (bot) is visiting the site.
Fraudsters put fake CAPTCHA codes in hacked websites and phishing emails, and as soon as you use the CAPTCHA code, the malware gets installed in your system. Once it enters your system, this malware steals your banking data and login details.
How do they play the whole game?
Fraudsters make a copy of a popular website and then show a fake prompt on the screen. After this, as soon as a user clicks on the fake CAPTCHA, they are asked to give permission for notifications or download a file. Just clicking on the captcha will not bring malware to your device, but if you download the notification or file, then malware can enter your device.
Take care of these things to avoid it.
Check the URL of the website; you will definitely find a mistake in the URL of the fake site.
Do not enable notifications coming from unknown websites.
Ignore suspicious pop-ups that ask you for permission to install files.
Keep your antivirus and security software updated.
Be cautious when using public Wi-Fi or unknown networks.
