The Uttar Pradesh government has approved PDPET, a bridge course conducted under NIOS. After completing this course, candidates with a B.Ed. Degrees will be eligible to become primary school teachers.
There's some good news for millions of candidates in Uttar Pradesh with B.Ed. degrees. Now, they will have the opportunity to teach in primary schools. The Uttar Pradesh government has approved PDPET, a bridge course conducted under NIOS. After completing this course, B.Ed. degree holders will also be eligible to become primary school teachers, just like BTC holders. So, let's learn about the complete process of the NIOS Bridge Course.
What's the whole matter?
Some time ago, the Supreme Court issued a major ruling. It stated that a B.Ed. A degree alone does not qualify a person to teach in grades 1 to 5. The Supreme Court had clarified that training like D.El.Ed or BTC is required to teach in primary classes; B.Ed will not be considered suitable for this. This decision reduced job opportunities for B.Ed holders, but now this new initiative is giving B.Ed holders a chance to become primary teachers again.
What is the PDPET Bridge Course?
PDPET is a 6-month bridge course specifically designed for B.Ed degree holders. This course provides them with information on teaching techniques for primary school children, child psychology, value education, assessment methods, and modern teaching methods. This course is completely online and conducted under NIOS. Upon completion, candidates will receive a certificate equivalent to a BTC or D.El.Ed.
When will the PDPET application process begin?
NIOS has announced the application dates for this bridge course for the new session. The application deadline is November 1, 2025. Candidates can apply by visiting the official NIOS website, http://dledbr.nios.ac.in/. They are eligible to teach children from grades 1 to 5. The biggest advantage is that this course can be completed from home. The Uttar Pradesh government has approved this course.
