He was arrested in January 2020 under sedition charges and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for allegedly making inflammatory speeches that called for a road blockade.
The 35-year-old Imam, who hails from Kako village in Jehanabad, Bihar, made headlines during the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in early 2020.
