Mumbai: Veteran public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, one of India’s most prominent legal figures, has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha by President Droupadi Murmu in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the Indian judicial system. His nomination reflects decades of unwavering dedication to justice, particularly in cases involving terrorism and national security.
With a career spanning over four decades, Ujjwal Nikam has built a respectable reputation for prosecuting some of the country’s most high-profile and complex criminal cases. He served as the Special Public Prosecutor in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts, a landmark case that brought to light the scale of coordinated terrorism.

He also played a central role in the prosecution of Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, ensuring a swift trial and justice for the victims.Beyond terrorism-related cases, Nikam has led the prosecution in several sensational trials, including the murder cases of music baron Gulshan Kumar and senior BJP leader Pramod Mahajan.

He has been nominated along 3 more candidates, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, a seasoned diplomat and former Indian Foreign Secretary; C Sadanandan Master, a teacher and activist from Kerala and Meenakshi Jain, a 2020 Padma Shri awardee, is a renowned historian and political scientist.
