Navi Mumbai | Set a victory target of 299, South Africa made a steady start to reach 70 for two in 13 overs against India in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup final here on Sunday.
Openers Laura Wolvaardt (25) and Tazmin Brits (23) began the chase cautiously before opening up, striking six fours and a six between them to give South Africa a confident start.
However, a sharp direct hit from Amanjot Kaur ended the 51-run stand, catching Brits short of her crease after attempting a quick single.
Earlier, after being asked to bat, Shafali Verma's robust 87 laid the foundation for India's innings, but South Africa rallied to restrict the visitors to 298 for seven.
