Horse wins at 1-33 odds after jockey of only rival falls off shortly after start of race

A horse was handed a straightforward task after her only rival lost its jockey at the start. Eat Pray Run, a rare runner at Hamilton in Scotland for Irish trainer Joseph O’Brien, was the 1-33 favourite for the Book Hampton By Hilton Hamilton Park EBF Maiden Stakes on Monday.

The two-year-old filly had run twice, finishing fourth on her second start in a maiden at Down Royal in July. The only other runner in the 5f race, the Iain Jardine-trained Supremissy, had raced just once, finishing last of 14 at Carlisle 20 days earlier.

At 10-1 Supremissy was a huge outsider in the race but her race was over within a couple of strides of the race starting.

After the stalls opened Supremissy went down on her nose and, despite his best efforts, her jockey Andrew Mullen fell off the side.

The riderless Supremissy kept galloping on in front of Eat Pray Run who was allowed to finish the race in her own time by jockey Oisin Orr to give O'Brien his first win at Hamilton.

Track commentator Tony Ennis said: “Oisin Orr won't ride any easier winners in his whole career than this one.

The stewards report of the race said: “Andrew Mullen the rider of Supremissy was unseated leaving the stalls. After viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no other horse or rider was involved and was caused by the filly stumbling after the start.”
