The M60 has been closed in both directions near Stockport as emergency services respond to the collision, which happened around 11.30am this morning. It involved four cars and four HGVs. Photographs from the scene show police, ambulances and the fire service at the scene.
Drivers in the area have been warned about traveldisruption this afternoon, which is expected to continue for a "substantial amount of time." National Highways said the motorway remains closed between Junction 25 at A560 Crookilley Way to Junction 1 at the A5145 Travis Brow.

Epstein's last moments seen on prison CCTV as probe unveils real cause of death
CCTV footage has been released showing the outside of Jeffrey Epstein's prison cell six years after the paedophile took his own life, amid a probe into his death.
The disgraced billionaire was foundhanging in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Centre in New York City on August 10, 2019. He had been convicted and jailed for sex trafficking offences as well as procuring a minor for prostitution.
Roughly 11 hours of video show what life was like inside the prison on the day he was found dead as well as the day before on August 9. One brief clip apparently shows Epstein dressed in an orange jumpsuit being walked to his cell by a guard at around 7.49pm.
