Morecambe Football Club's future is in doubt and Tyson Fury looks unlikely to ride to their rescue despite previously claiming he would buy the club.
The 105-year-old club have been handed major sanctions after failing to meet their financial obligations for the upcoming campaign. The side dropped into the National League last season after finishing rock bottom in League Two. Their first three National League fixtures against Boston, Brackley and Scunthorpe have all be postponed.
"It was decided further sanctions must be imposed, with the club's membership to be suspended with immediate effect," the National League recently said in a statement. "The committee will meet again on Wednesday, August 20 to determine if outstanding items have been satisfied, and to decide the club's ability to retain membership in the competition."
With the Shrimps now just days away from dissolving completely as an entity, fans are pleading for Fury to step in at the 11th hour and help rescue the club. One fan took to social media to say: "Tyson Fury watching Morecambe... go bust while training at his gym from the ground daily is genuinely mental. Save your local club!"

The 'Gypsy King' first expressed his interest in his hometown team three years ago after the club were put on the market by Bond Group Investments. "I’m thinking about buying Morecambe Football Club, they’re in League One at the moment," he told talkSPORT. "So I was thinking I invest X amount of millions in them. Basically throw it at them and keep them going up. I’ve been offered to buy Morecambe Football Club. I own all the training facilities anyway and the training gym. So who knows? You might be looking at a football club owner."
Fury is arguably the biggest name in Morecambe. The 36-year-old lives in the town with his wife Paris and their seven children. The Tyson Fury Foundation is situated in the north-east corner of the club's stadium, the Mazuma Mobile Stadium. The building also contains a gym within premises that is owned by the legendary boxer.
Earlier this year, Fury had a reported net worth of £130million ($160m), according to Celebritynetworth.com. The Brit is no stranger when it comes to receiving lucrative paydays. Three years on from expressing his interest in the club, fans have been left surprised by Fury going radio silent.
Simon Jordan - who interviewed Fury on the topic of Morecambe back in 2022 - has now called for the boxer to put his money where his mouth is and help the club from facing extinction. “I spoke to Tyson about it two years ago and he was interested [in becoming Morecambe owner]," he said on talkSPORT.
“He wanted to do something like that; he was asking about the ideas of running a football club. Given the fact Tyson Fury doesn’t even pay his debts to Piers Morgan when he gets a million quid, I don’t think he’s going to put his hands in his pocket and buy a football club.
“Let’s call him out. Let’s say, Tyson Fury, the most prominent resident of Morecombe, has lots to say and is always talking about how he can help different people. Here’s an opportunity, Tyson. Put your hand in your pocket. You’ve got £170m in assets, buy your football club. Do something for somebody else besides yourself.”
When is Tyson Fury's next fight?Last month, it was revealed that Fury will be making a stunning comeback to the ring and a third date with Usyk has even been revealed. The trilogy showdown is set for 18 April 2026 at Wembley Stadium. The 36-year-old shared a fight poster featuring him and the Ukrainian on Instagram, captioning it: "April 18, 2026 Wembley Stadium. The trilogy! UK. contact @spencerbrownmrgoldstar for tickets."
However, the Brit recently claimed he will "never" fight again, just weeks after it was announced that he was planning to return to the ring. When asked when he plans to fight again, Fury told Sky Sports: "Never. Really! Too old, look at my beard, all grey. Boxing's a young man's game."
