A new snow forecast has pinpointed the exact date heavy snowfall could bring 7cm to the UK, as the weather becomes increasingly wintry.
The probability of flurries falling over the country has recently increased, according to the latest maps, which have captured the first flakes of autumn 2025 descending over primarily high ground. At the same time, temperatures have widely dipped, descending down into the low teens as part of a trend that looks set to accelerate later this month.
GFS weather model maps predicts snow will fall over Scotland in a matter of days, with a sizeable weather system approaching from October 22. The first signs of flurries present themselves at around 12pm on the day, primarily in the country's north.

The snowfall will concentrate over the Cairngorms, a Scottish national park known for its snowy-peaked mountains which often see the first showers of a new season.
The maps suggest snow could fall in a wider area beyond there, however, all the way up to the Scottish Highlands, as far north as the northern coast. A roughly 130-mile area could see 2cm of snow falling per hour, the maps predict, with the most significant snow settling over high ground near Loch Monar.
In all, the maps suggest up to 7cm - nearly three inches - could fall in Scotland in the near future while the rest of the country grows colder.
The maps come alongside others for the following weekend of October 25 to 26, which show a chance of snow across northern England, Wales and Scotland.
The risk of snow builds primarily in the morning, but could persist throughout the day, holding in Wales and Scotland in the afternoon on Saturday.
By Sunday, there remains a slim possibility that snow could fall over eastern England. While snow may not hold over the entire weekend, low temperatures may, with the mercury potentially descending into freezing in the north.
The Met Office, however, anticipates the period of October 15 to 24 to be more or less par for the course weather-wise, although it could prove rainy.
Its forecst predicts: "High pressure is expected to be the dominant weather type across the UK at the start of this period. Whilst some rain and drizzle is likely in parts of the southeast and north, mainly over the higher ground, much of the UK will be predominantly dry."
