From Sahasradhara to Maldevta and Sarkhet, indiscriminate construction has taken place in the river basins. Luxurious hotels and resorts have been built by encroaching on river land. However, the Irrigation Department remains undeterred, and in a disaster-like situation, such construction is taking a toll on the lives and property of the common people.
One such incident not only came to light during this disaster, but also infuriated District Magistrate Savin Bansal. During an inspection of the disaster-hit areas on Thursday, the District Magistrate discovered that a luxury resort had been built on river land in the Bandawali Khairi Man Singh area.
To protect his resort, "Sparsh Farms & Resorts," the operator diverted the river's flow from the approach. This caused the floodwaters to overflow onto the road during the disaster. A 150-meter stretch of road was completely destroyed. The District Magistrate and a team of engineers determined that if the river had not been diverted, the damage would not have been so severe.
Preliminary estimates indicate that the resort operator's actions have cost the government ₹6 crore. The District Magistrate has taken the matter seriously and ordered a high-level investigation. The resort operator will be charged with recovering the damage to government property.
Additionally, the District Magistrate issued instructions to investigate the river land and reclaim it immediately. Currently, the PWD has begun work to channel the river to repair the road in this area.
