BSF to Deploy Drone Squadron on Pakistan Border for the First Time, Tightens Vigil Post Operation Sindoor

In a significant step towards enhancing border security, the Border Security Force (BSF) is set to deploy a dedicated drone squadron for the first time on the India-Pakistan international border. This development comes in the wake of Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April, which claimed 26 lives.

Enhanced Border Vigilance with Drone Technology

Official sources confirm that the drone squadron will be stationed at selected Border Outposts (BoPs) and will feature a range of small and large drones capable of:

• Surveillance

• Reconnaissance

• Attack missions

Each post will be manned by a team of 2–3 specially trained soldiers, with the entire squadron being centrally controlled from BSF’s Western Command Headquarters in Chandigarh.

Strategic Deployment After Operation Sindoor

Following Operation Sindoor, which saw a coordinated strike by Indian forces against terrorist and military targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), BSF identified a growing threat from Pakistani drones, including swarm drone attacks.

In retaliation during Operation Sindoor, BSF reportedly:

• Destroyed 118 Pakistani outposts

• Disrupted their surveillance infrastructure

The new drone squadron aims to neutralize aerial threats and reinforce surveillance along the 2,000 km-long India-Pakistan border spanning Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.

Modernization of Border Defenses

Apart from the drone squadron:

• Border posts and bunkers are being upgraded

• Roofs and walls are being fortified with heavy protective sheets to resist drone attacks

• Counter-drone systems are being planned for select posts to intercept and destroy enemy drones mid-air

This deployment marks a major technological advancement in India’s border defense strategy. By integrating drone warfare capabilities and real-time surveillance, BSF aims to stay ahead of emerging threats and ensure rapid response during any hostile situation.
