Bhubaneswar: A 48-year-old father, Sudhir Kar, has threatened self-immolation, alleging harassment by three miscreants involved in the murder of his son.
In a Facebook live-stream, Sudhir recounted how, on Friday around 10 pm, the accused — Aditya, Hanuman, and Shravan — confronted him, held guns to his head and chest, and demanded he withdraw their names from the murder case. “I lost my only son. The accused are yet to be arrested and they are now threatening to kill me if I did not withdraw the case against them,” he said.
On April 9, a 21-year-old diploma student, Mukesh Kar, was stabbed to death at VSS Market in Chhend area in Rourkela, during a clash between two rival groups. The main culprit in the crime, which occurred at a stone’s throw distance from Chhend police station, is still at large.
Sudhir further alleged that he tried to lodge a complaint in Chhend police station on the day he was threatened by the miscreants but was instead asked to approach RN Pali police as the incident took place under its jurisdiction.
Accusing police of being indifferent to their plight, the hapless father said that he and his wife Asha would self-immolate themselves in front of either Chhend or RN Pali police station if no action is taken in 2 days.
RN Pali police station IIC Rajendra Swain said that a case has been registered on the basis of Sudhir’s complaint, and investigation is underway.
