Barclays confirms 7 groups 'are not eligible' for £200 payments

Barclays has explained the qualifying rules for a £200 bonus payment. The bank set out the eligibility criteria after a longtime customer voiced their frustration that they would not be able to collect the extra cash. The person contacted the bank over social media to ask: "Great offer for £200 to switch to Barclays.

"But having been a loyal customer for over 15 years, reckon I am due a cut. Doesn't seem fair I can't get this £200." Barclays responded to apologise that the longtime customer would miss out.

The bank explained: "You aren't eligible for the account switch offer as this [is] only available to new customers." Barclays is currently offering a range of cash payments if you switch to them, with up to £900 up for grabs.

You can get £200 when switching to a Barclays Bank Account or £400 when switching to a Premier Current Account. On top of either payment, you can also get up to £500 when moving over your ISA savings.

Customers must open either account in a sole name in the Barclays app. You need to carry out the switch using the Current Account Switch Service, which you need to begin by November 27.

You need to sign up for Blue Rewards if you go for the Barclays Bank Account, and pay in £2,000 into the account. If you are signing up for the Premier Current Account, you need to deposit at least £4,000. You have to meet these requirements within 30 days of requesting your switch.

Who is not eligible for the Barclays switch offer?

These seven groups will not qualify for the bonus switch offer:

• You don't have a number to use the Barclays app, or a valid email address to register for Blue Rewards, if opening a Barclays Current Account
• You already have any open Barclays Current Account on or before this offer started on October 7, 2025. This includes but isn't limited to a Barclays Bank Account, student or graduate account, or a Premier Current Account
• You're only eligible for a Barclays Basic Current Account
• You've received a CASS bonus from Barclays in the past
• You're opening a joint account
• You requested to switch in an account before this offer was made available or after it closed
• You requested to switch in an existing account from Barclays.

Which Barclays customers can get the £900 switch offer?

Although the offer is only available to new customers, some existing Barclays customers may still qualify. If you have a Barclaycard, mortgage or savings account, you may be eligible.

To open an account and get the offer, you will need to:

• Delete the Barclays app from your device
• Reinstall the app and register as a new customer to apply for either a Barclays Bank Account with Blue Rewards, or a Premier Current Account
• Wait up to 48 hours for your new account to appear in the app. If this doesn't happen, you can contact Barclays to merge your profiles.
