The BBC has come under fire as viewers raged at their "disrespectful" move to only dedicate five minutes to the Armistice Day memorial service. A number of viewers took to social media to share their fury that the BBC opted not to have a full programme dedicated to the day, and instead aired it on BBC News.
They also sparked backlash as one presenter was heard calling Princess Kate, Kate Middleton, a name which she has not officially gone by since 2011.
One said on X: "See that the #BBC are giving a whole 5 minutes to Armistice Day."
Another added: |Your utter disrespect with your coverage of Armistice Day is beyond belief. Your presenters rabbiting away over the epitaph and then cutting away during the last post. This happens for moments and the idiot nonsense your presenters say can wait. Time to defund."
A third chimed in: "BBC what a shower trying to watch the armistice day events dear god the camera work the presenter and the fact you couldn't be a**ed to do an actual program and have just stuck it on the news so we also have a banner with the news going under it."
A fourth messaged Sky News directly, saying : "Sky News - Thank you for covering Armistice Day; BBC could only devote 5 minutes to it."
However, one added: "Of course like everyone else, I turn on BBC to follow the Armistice Day memorial services around the country."
Princess Kate was seen at the event in an all-black ensemble with a matching wide-brimmed hat as she joined senior officials along with veterans and their families to honour the fallen soliders from World War II.
She has been a senior royal since marrying Prince William in 2011, and viewers were furious on her behalf when her correct title was not used during the live report, as she was repeatedly called Kate Middleton.
One person posted on X: "Who is the moron calling the Princess of Wales "Kate Middleton" on BBC News?"
Another said: "Am I missing something? Is the BBC now not just left wing but also republican? "Kate Middleton" ?? ??? How bl**y disrespectful. This woman keeps on calling her Kate Middleton. FFS!"
