
London is set to be hammered by torrential rain and thunderstorms that risk sparking flooding chaos throughout the chaos. It comes after the Met Office issued several 11-hour yellow thunderstorm warnings with parts of southern England at risk of being drenched by as much as 60mm of rain today.
The Met Office weather warnings read: "Thunderstorms and heavy showers are expected to develop during Thursday morning and through the afternoon. These could produce torrential downpours in a few places with as much as 25-35 mm of rain falling within an hour and perhaps 60 mm within 2 hours. Frequent lightning and hail will be additional hazards. Storms will tend to become more confined to the south and east of the warning area later in the afternoon before dying out during the evening." The forecaster also warned of potential power cuts, delays on the roads and rail networks, as well as a "small chance" homes and busineses could be flooded quickly.
