At one point in the summer, it looked as if Viktor Gyokeres joining Manchester United would be a given. The striker looked certain to reunite with former manager Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford, with the Swede said to have been open to an Old Trafford move.
Fast forward a couple of weeks and that's all change. Instead, it looks as if a move to Arsenal is on the horizon, with United unlikely to sign the Sporting CP ace, despite talk of a hijack. It means that if Amorim is intent on adding even more goals to his squad, United will have to look elsewhere. As a result, Express Sport have picked out four potential Gyokeres alternatives the 20-time champions could look towards instead.
Ollie Watkins
How about the man that Arsenal courted themselves in January? Ollie Watkins was reportedly subject to a bid from the Gunners, but for one reason or another, he stuck around at Aston Villa instead. Watkins has opened up about frustrations with Villa boss Unai Emery and given the 2026 World Cup is on the horizon, the 29-year-old could be tempted by a move elsewhere.
Nicolas Jackson
Following the arrivals of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, Nicolas Jackson is somewhat yesterday's news at Chelsea. The much-maligned forward has shown signs of brilliance, but also struggled with certain parts of his game since joining Chelsea in 2023. As such, United have emerged as a surprise suitor, with rumours that the Red Devils have held talks with his representatives. It would be an eyebrow raiser, but maybe a change of scenery is all Jackson needs to find his best form.
Benjamin Sesko
Another long-time Arsenal target, it had looked at one point that the Gunners were prioritising a move for Benjamin Sesko ahead of Gyokeres. They've since shifted their priorities, but that doesn't mean Sesko won't be on the move this summer. Much like United, RB Leipzig don't have European football of any kind next season, meaning Sesko might not need much convincing to ditch the Bundesliga side for Old Trafford.
Randal Kolo Muani
After a brief loan spell with Juventus, Randal Kolo Muani is back at Paris Saint-Germain, where minutes haven't been forthcoming in recent years. It's unsurprising that talk of a move away from the French capital is being touted, given he's unlikely to displace any of the electric attacking talent PSG boast among their ranks. United, as well as Premier League rivals Newcastle, are among the sides said to be monitoring the 26-year-old's current situation at PSG ahead of a potential move. Kolo Mauni was considered one of Europe's most promising attackers before his PSG transfer, and if he rediscover those performances, he could prove a useful asset for United.
