Richard Osman had the nation gripped back in 2020 with his crime novel series, The Thursday Murder Club.

The book features four retirees who live in a peaceful retirement village. When they decide to form a club to investigate unsolved murders, things take a turn when a real crime is committed.

Fans of the book series were thrilled when it was announced the novel was being turned into a film, which began filming last year.

People can expect to see the likes of Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie take on the roles of Elizabeth Best, Ron Ritchie, Ibrahim Arif and Joyce Meadowcroft.

This week, Richard took to Instagram to make a special announcement about the upcoming film, which is set to be released in UK cinemas on August 22 and available to stream on Netflix from August 28.

The 54-year-old wrote: "AWESOME COMPETITION ALERT!!! I have ten pairs of tickets to give away for the World Premiere of 'The Thursday Murder Club' movie, for subscribers to my newsletter, tomorrow!

He said: "You just sit and chat with these people and they've lived these extraordinary lives. You hear these amazing stories and gossip and wisdom.

"You think, 'These people are so overlooked.' The idea that these people with their wisdom and their invisibility would be the perfect people to solve [a crime] is exactly where The Thursday Murder Club comes from.

"Take these people who are underestimated but who have these incredible skills, put them together, and they can achieve anything."

The Thursday Murder Club will hit UK cinemas on August 22. It will subsequently become available to stream on Netflix from August 28.
