There's nothing better than the feeling of a fresh, clean, fluffy towel, but after a few washes, towels can quickly lose their touch and start to feel scratchy. It's an issue that everyone faces, and while popping them in the dryer can help restore that fluffy feeling, it's not the most efficient method.
One Redditor, eager to find a new way to keep towels feeling new, asked fellow users for tips on how to keep towels soft when drying them. They wrote: "I love to hang dry our laundry. It's cheaper, uses fewer resources, the laundry smells better afterwards, quicker to stow away and so on!
"However, my girlfriend insists on putting towels in the dryer because they become softer and 'fluffier' when in the dryer. Is there a way to achieve the same results when dry hanging towels?"
People were quick to offer solutions to the issue, including one person who loves hanging their washing on the dryer.
They wrote: "I love line-dried things. Sheets, clothes, towels. Towels are the worst offenders for being all stiff after a dry on the line. You can pop them in the dryer for a quick fluff, but I find that defeats the purpose of line drying.
"So I shake the ever living hell out of them as I take them off the line. Just really flap them all over the damn place. Lint everywhere. Work out some aggression. Make the neighbours wonder what the noise is. It fluffs them right up and retains that nice sunshiny smell."
Another person similarly encouraged giving towels a good shake before putting them away.
They explained: "You just have to give your stiff towels a very good rustle when you take them down off the line before storing in your linen cabinet and/or be lucky to have a windy day.
"The point is to 'scrunch out the cast' (to steal a term from curly hair car) on the cotton fibres that is caused by wetting and drying cotton."
So, while many people claim that tumble driers are the only way to get your towels feel soft, there clearly is an option for those who prefer hanging out their washing, and even if you still feel like your towels feel a bit rought while many people ressaured that actually they're more absorbent that way and "soften right up with the first use".
