A drunken woman who glassed her pregnant friend has been jailed for 18 months and warned prison is a "wake-up call" for her nasty behaviour. Rosealeen Sullivan, 33, was drinking at her pal's home in Adlington near Macclesfield, Cheshire, while her friend abstained as she was expecting a baby.
But when her tired friend announced she was heading to bed, angry Sullivan first rolled her eyes - then leapt over and smashed her wine glass in the pregnant woman's face, cutting it and her foot. At Chester Crown Court Sullivan, of Stretford, Greater Manchester, was found guilty of assault after already admitting possession of the Class A drug cocaine at an earlier hearing.
After being sentenced to 18 months in prison, Cheshire Police's PC Molly Eaton said: "This was an unprovoked attack on a pregnant woman in her own home.
"The injuries to her face and foot needed hospital treatment and it is incomprehensible how Sullivan could justify such violence against her friend.
"I hope this time in prison will act as a wakeup call for her in her behaviour toward her friend."
The court heard the shocking incident occurred in Adlington on October 3, 2024 when Sullivan was at her pregnant friend's home.
The jury were told that the defendant was drinking wine but the victim was not, due to being pregnant.
Cheshire Police added: "The victim said she wanted to sleep as she was tired, and Sullivan rolled her eyes.
"The victim asked why she did that and Sullivan turned on her calling her names.
"She then smashed a wine glass into the woman's forehead causing it to bleed quite badly. The victim then stood on broken glass causing a cut to her foot."
The court heard an ambulance was called, and they subsequently informed police. Sullivan was arrested on suspicion of assault, and she was taken into custody.
While there, officers found wraps of cocaine in her handbag and arrested her.
