A British Sikh man was fatally stabbed in London in what police believe was an incident involving people known to each other.
The Metropolitan Police officially identified the victim, Gurmuk Singh - also known as Gary - on Thursday, and confirmed he died at the scene despite efforts by paramedics to save him. Singh had sustained a fatal stab wound to the left thigh, according to a post-mortem examination.
Officers arrested 27-year-old Amardeep Singh on suspicion of murder. He has since been charged and is due to stand trial at the Old Bailey on January 5, 2026.
Four other individuals — a 29-year-old man and three women aged 29, 30, and 54 — were also arrested and have been released on bail pending further investigation.
"A well-loved man"
Describing Singh as a "well-loved man," his family said in a statement: “Gary had a remarkable ability to connect with everyone he met. A true social butterfly, nothing brought him more joy than being surrounded by his family.”
Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, leading the investigation, said the incident appears to be isolated. “This tragic event has understandably sent shockwaves through the community. There will be an increased police presence in the area — I urge anyone with concerns or information to speak with our officers,” she stated.
An inquest into the death has been opened and adjourned as investigations continue.
